About Dr. Melissa Morgan

Dr. Melissa Morgan is a choral conductor, educator, vocalist, author, and speaker from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. As an Associate Professor and Director of Choral Activities in the faculty of Media, Arts, and Performance at the University of Regina, she conducts the auditioned Chamber Singers and the non-auditioned Concert Choir in addition to teaching courses in choral conducting. Dr. Morgan also serves as the music director and curator of the Campion College Musica Sacra series held annually during Advent and Lent.

An active conductor, her choirs have performed and toured in halls such as Lincoln Centre, New York (2018) and Cadogan Hall, London England (2023), at Choral Canada Podium Conferences (2010 & 2016), as well as with other professional musicians including Canadian Tenors (2017) and the Regina Symphony Orchestra (2019). Dr. Morgan enjoys travelling to be a clinician and guest conductor with choirs across North America and globally. Her most recent engagements have taken her to Manitoba, Michigan, and Thailand.

Scholarly contributions of Dr. Morgan have appeared in the American Choral Directors Association publication, The Choral Journal, and the Canadian Music Educators Association Journal. Her publications also include articles in the peer-reviewed Teaching Music Through Performance in Choir, Vol. 5, published by GIA Publications Inc. with her most recent contributions appearing in the new book entitled, Choral Repertoire by Women Composers, also published by GIA. Currently, Dr. Morgan is focussing her writing efforts on an Open Educational Resource (OER) textbook that focuses on singing for emerging vocalists and actors.

Dr. Morgan presents her research at local, national, and international events and on a variety of topics ranging from Prairie Choral Music, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, Women in leadership roles, Appropriation vs Appreciation, and BIPOC Representation in the vocal world, to name a few. She has presented at the Choral Canada National Conference, Podium (Toronto, 2022), at the Association of American Choral Directors National Conference (Ohio, 2023) and at the Voice and Speech Trainers Association Annual Conference (La Paz, 2023). From 2022–2025, Dr. Morgan served as Music Department Head.

Dr. Morgan holds a Doctor of Music Performance in Choral Conducting from the University of Toronto where she studied with Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt, a Master of Music Performance in Choral Conducting from the University of Western Ontario where she studied with Dr. Victoria Meredith and Dr. Gerald Neufeld. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Regina. She is also an Associate of the Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music (ARCT) in piano, voice, and flute.
